Ben Quie & Sons is a design-build remodeling company bringing new life to historic and character homes across St. Paul and Minneapolis.

Founded in 1988

What began as a summer job in the 1980s sparked a lifelong passion for remodeling. In 1988, founder Ben Quie launched Tectonic Construction—later becoming Ben Quie & Sons—with a simple goal: to bring craftsmanship and care to every project. For the first two decades, it was a small team focused entirely on the hands-on work. After the 2008 recession, Ben shifted his focus to growing the business, building the systems and structure to serve more homeowners without sacrificing quality.

Sam Quie joined the business as soon as he was old enough to work on job sites—first sweeping floors, now leading as company president. Together, they’ve built a reputation as the go-to remodeling team for historic and vintage homes in St. Paul and Minneapolis.

The entire process went very smoothly, from design to completion. I really appreciated the attention to detail put in, bringing up great points we hadn't considered. Our project manager offered thoughtful guidance at every decision point, treating our home as if it were his own and focusing on doing things right. I particularly love the design of the tile, the glass doors that match our built-ins in the dining room, and the beautiful quartz countertop.

 Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had a kitchen/dinette remodel that we worked with BQS on. They did an excellent job from projection inception to closure, from design to product selection to build. It took roughly two months for two rooms (note that existing cabinets and appliances stayed in the kitchen), which feels incredible to us. New counters, new custom cabinets in the dinette, backsplash, vent liner, some demo and investigation around old leaks, and a partial wall build were all included. Also new lighting. All of the BQS employees were fantastic, we enjoyed working with them, and, overall, good experience with the subcontractors they use, as well.

It was important to us to work with a contractor that had experience preserving the character of older homes, and after much research, we selected Ben Quie & Sons because they are specialists in this area. After doing a lot of research, we decided to work with Ben and his team to try and achieve the vision we had for the house. It was important to us to work with someone who could update our kitchen and main bathroom while keeping cohesion with the rest of the house. Their team made wonderful design choices that have made the updates feel like they were original parts of the home. They’re detail oriented, and very thoughtful with all the different executions and cleanup. Their team was very professional and respectful, making working with them a joy. Most of all, it was their concern for our happiness with the outcome, and well-being throughout the project that would make me work with them again.
