A Childhood Home Rebuilt

Our experience with Ben Quie & Sons has been, in a word, fantastic. Construction began in March 2011, but before then we had met with Ben many times, going over plans and budget. Ben has an excellent eye for design, materials, and also knows when to ask the right questions. When we asked him to help find solutions to architectural issues, he found them. And he found solutions that made sense for our budget. Also, we were able to make major changes to the house, while keeping its “soul” intact. The new work blends in perfectly with the original design of the house while accommodating our needs as a modern family.

Throughout the construction phase we had an excellent project manager from Ben’s team, Kate Post. Kate met with us every week and we had a chance to communicate what we were thinking, and she always let us know ahead of time if there was any issue that might incur additional expense. Kate had the respect of the construction team and was always ready and able to resolve any issue. For example, when we were debating whether or not to re-stucco the entire house versus just certain areas, she was able to give us estimates of the costs and help us make a good decision. Ben and his team also did a great job finding a solution for air conditioning in our home. A perfect solution for us, and again, met our budget.

I think what is very important is that whenever we had a question or a problem, we could pick up the phone and get an immediate response from Ben or Kate. In addition, we felt we had the HIGHEST quality woodworkers, carpenters, and cabinetmakers on our job. EVERYONE on that team was upbeat, obviously liked their job, and did excellent work.

Finally, we were pleased to see that at the end of every work day, the project areas were neat and clean. Each person on that team had a personal work ethic that made sure we, as owners, didn’t have to worry about safety, cleanliness, or waste disposal.

We would highly recommend Ben Quie and Sons to anyone contemplating a home construction project. Working with such ethical, committed, and budget-conscious people was a true delight, and we are living in our dream house thanks to their hard work, vision, and commitment to customer satisfaction.

Ben helped us with our kitchen remodel in our 1920 craftsman home. The entire process went very smoothly, from design to completion. I really appreciated the attention to detail put in, bringing up great points we hadn't considered. Our project manager offered thoughtful guidance at every decision point, treating our home as if it were his own and focusing on doing things right. We had a kitchen/dinette remodel that we worked with BQS on. They did an excellent job from projection inception to closure, from design to product selection to build. It took roughly two months for two rooms (note that existing cabinets and appliances stayed in the kitchen), which feels incredible to us. New counters, new custom cabinets in the dinette, backsplash, vent liner, some demo and investigation around old leaks, and a partial wall build were all included. Also new lighting. All of the BQS employees were fantastic, we enjoyed working with them, and, overall, good experience with the subcontractors they use, as well.

We recently purchased a home that is over 100yrs old, and the porch and basement were in need of a refresh. It was important to us to work with a contractor that had experience preserving the character of older homes, and after much research, we selected Ben Quie & Sons because they are specialists in this area. My husband and I bought a 100 year old house that needed updating. After doing a lot of research, we decided to work with Ben and his team to try and achieve the vision we had for the house. It was important to us to work with someone who could update our kitchen and main bathroom while keeping cohesion with the rest of the house. Their team made wonderful design choices that have made the updates feel like they were original parts of the home. They’re detail oriented, and very thoughtful with all the different executions and cleanup. Their team was very professional and respectful, making working with them a joy. Most of all, it was their concern for our happiness with the outcome, and well-being throughout the project that would make me work with them again.
