Transitional Kitchen Design in Mendota Heights

Refined Warmth

A Warm Welcome Home

This transitional kitchen design is a bright, warm retreat, even in the depths of winter. Natural light floods the space, bringing in warm rays of sunshine. The final design combines traditional and contemporary touches to create a timeless look that feels both warm and inviting, yet sophisticated.

A New View: Expansive Windows

The new, expansive bow windows bring a fresh, open feel to the kitchen, flooding it with natural light and offering beautiful outdoor views. We also repositioned the kitchen sink to be perfectly centered under these windows, creating a focal point that feels both functional and inviting. These small changes have dramatically transformed the way the kitchen feels.

Expanding Storage

The kitchen previously offered a decent amount of storage, but the layout felt inefficient and cramped. By extending the cabinetry into the existing pantry space, we increased both storage and functionality. A flush-paneled refrigerator and cabinets open up the flow of the kitchen and enhance the room’s sense of space.

Natural Beauty

The stone backsplash adds natural beauty and timeless elegance to this transitional kitchen design, serving as a stunning visual element that is also highly durable. Just above, a custom white vent hood pairs perfectly with an induction cooktop that heats quickly, is energy-efficient, and is safer to use—especially if you have small kids.

Perfectly Tucked Away

For any regular coffee drinker, having a dedicated space is essential. Tucking it away in an appliance garage is a perfect compromise that maintains functionality without disrupting the design.

Cohesive, Casual Dining

Adjacent to the kitchen is a casual dining area featuring cabinetry that once overpowered the space—so much so that the door was barely noticeable! The built-in desk also lacked functionality. To complement the island while distinguishing the breakfast nook from the kitchen, we introduced new custom cabinetry that mirrors the look of a classic china cabinet, paired with additional closed storage at the other end for a cohesive and practical solution.
